Jeremy Smith, M.D.
Dr. Jeremy Smith has worked in healthcare for more than 17 years. He earned his bachelor’s degree at Midwestern State University and his medical degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. After completing his residency at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler, he began practicing medicine in Nacogdoches.
Raised by incredible parents, and now a husband and father of three himself, Dr. Smith understands what it’s like to care of a family.
In 2014 MyMD Select was born and that practice model has allowed him to combine his expertise with genuine care for patients. That vision has expanded across East Texas, allowing thousands of patients to confidently take control of their health.
He loves traveling the world watching his favorite soccer teams. Hunting, fishing and farming are also part of his off time.
Luke Johnson, M.D.
As a primary care physician, Dr. Johnson strives to provide thorough, holistic care to all of his patients. Dr. Johnson was born and raised in East Texas and is proud to continue to practice here at home.
He grew up in Alto, Texas, spent time in Jacksonville playing soccer for the Rusk youth teams, and spent his high school/college summers in Lufkin learning the importance of hard work while pouring concrete for his father’s construction company.
Dr. Johnson is a SFASU alum achieving a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Combined Sciences. At that time, he also completed his training and worked as a certified nursing assistant. This experience helped guide his passion of becoming a family medicine physician. Dr. Johnson attended St. George’s University for medical school in Grenada, West Indies and completed clinical training in New York and New Jersey.
In addition to his medical degree at SGU, Dr. Johnson also completed his Masters in Public Health in Health Policy and Administration with focus on preventive medicine and rural health. He completed his residency training at UT Southwestern in Dallas, Texas.
His hobbies include golf, hunting, gardening, and back-country hiking/camping.
Melissa Huggins
Meet Melissa Huggins, your Family Nurse Practitioner at MyMD Select – Lufkin!
Melissa has been with MyMD Select since 2016. She received her Bachelors in Nursing from Stephen F. Austin State University in 2006, and her Masters in Nursing from Texas A&M University Corpus Christi in 2015.
“I am passionate about helping others, and love that I am able to do this in the direct primary care setting at MyMD Select. I knew early in my nursing career that I wanted to focus on preventative medicine, and helping patients to take charge of their health and make informed decisions. At MyMD Select, we make the patient a part of the decision making process in their health plan. Because we have the time to educate, answer questions, be available and follow up, I feel this makes the biggest difference for our patients. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to do this!”
When asked what her favorite part of working for MyMD Select – Lufkin was she said it was her patients! “I am so fortunate to have the time to be able to get to know my patients and love when I can catch up with them when they come in, or when I talk to them on the phone. I love to be a part of their lives! I also love my team that I work with every day. They make coming to work fun and I am fortunate to work with the best!”

She is married to her husband, Adam
Mom of 2 boys, Bridger and Brooks
She loves good food, music, and all sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys and the Astros
She loves to be outdoors in her free time hunting and fishing and spending time with her family and friends
She never meets a stranger and LOVES getting to know new people!

Lacee Pierce
Meet the newest member of the MyMD Select family, Lacee Pierce – Family Nurse Practitioner. Lacee will be working with both the Nacogdoches and Lufkin locations!
Lacee received her Bachelors in Nursing at Texas Woman’s University in 2000. She then worked as an RN in critical care for more than 10 years. She earned her Masters in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner at Texas A&M Corpus Christi in 2012. Lacee has worked as a FNP-C for more than 10 years caring for all groups of people across their lifespan treating acute and chronic illnesses and promoting wellness.
“I enjoy caring for all demographics and have done quite a bit of women’s health including family planning procedures, such as insertion and removal of IUDs and Nexplanon contraceptives. Much of my career has been managing chronic illness, especially Type II diabetes.”
Lacee said she chose MyMD Select because “I wanted to be able to focus more on prevention and wellness with an organization that places importance on building relationships and trust with your clients in order to reach their health goals through supporting positive lifestyle choices and practices. I want clients to reach and maintain optimal health for optimal quality of life.”
